For the last couple of weeks a bird has been visiting my yard that I have never seen before. I have not been able to get a picture but if it sounds familiar, please help. It is a beautiful bird. At first I thought it was a woodpecker but have not been able to find a picture of it online.

It is a beautiful shade of brown (really saying its brown seems like an insult).
It has a beak like a woodpecker.
It has a dark black band across its breast.
Under its wings "are like sunshine".
It seems to be a ground feeder.
There is a very small patch of red at his nape (where a ponytail would be on a girl).
When he spreads his wings to fly it is white or light colored on his body.

If you have any idea what this bird might be, please let me know.

I am in the Fingerlakes in New York State.
